WASHINGTON, January 30, 2020 – The TWU-IAM Association announced today that it has entered into tentative agreements with American Airlines for five new collective agreements (JCBAs) worth $4.2 billion for more than 30,000 members of Mechanic – Related, Fleet Service, Maintenance Control, MLS/Stores and Maintenance Training Specialist. Interim agreements provide the industry with peak wages, benefits and working conditions. The Association and American Airlines have reached an agreement on the implementation of certain elements of the JCBAs. The following points cover salary, retirement and some of the benefits that are most important to our membership: “Our Maintenance and Related and Fleet Service team members are the best in business and work incredibly hard to look after our customers,” said Doug Parker, President and CEO of American. They deserve contracts that include a marked improvement in wages, quality of life and job protection. Preliminary agreements respect all of this – and more. FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines and the TWU-IAM Association this week reached preliminary agreements on new joint collective agreements that cover more than 31,000 team members. The interim agreements provide the industry with the best protection against outsourcing and the safety of iron use. These agreements require immediate increases between 4% and 18%. These increases, combined with the 2016 interim wages, have increased pay rates from 23% to 53% since the merger of American Airlines and US Airways. These agreements also offer the industry`s best profit-sharing formula, which includes bonuses of $3,000 to $6,000, increases premium payments, maintains generous improvements in retirement plans, affordable health insurance options, and ensures each member`s work at their current location. The impact of the severe COVID 19 pandemic on the operation of the company has created uncertainty about the ability to predict specific implementation dates for certain contractual elements that the company must undertake. That is why the parties have agreed to meet within 60 days of ratification and ongoing, in order to reach agreement on all outstanding agreements after the ratification date and not in the implementation agreement reached today.
